Hi, I’m Racquel Whyte! I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica and currently reside in New York. I wear many different hats, but you may know me as (@cookingwithracquel) on Instagram and now the owner of Racquel‘s Spices (@racquelspices).
Why was Racquel’s Spices created?
Racquel’s Spices was created as a result of my love and passion for cooking. This passion is innate as I have been cooking since I was an adolescent but have always been in the kitchen with my mom from a young age. I therefore quickly learned what was important to effectively combine herbs and spices to create magic in the kitchen which led me to start experimenting. For years I have been mixing and remixing different herbs and spices to create fun and new flavors which I have been using with my friends and family much to their pleasure.
How did you develop the idea for Racquel’s Spices?
Starting Racquel’s Spices was a random idea from 10-year-old daughter Destiny. My love for cooking and experimenting with herbs and spices goes way back (family tradition). After migrating to the US, it was a challenge finding spices that accommodated my palette. So, I started importing spices from Jamaica for my personal use. Once while I was unboxing some spices. My daughter said ‘Mom, why don’t you start your own spice company and share the experience? This sounded like a brilliant idea nevertheless I procrastinated. Out of the spur of the moment, Racquel’s Spices became a reality. As they say, the rest is history.
